COVID-19: ACES Updates
Hello Avenue City School Parents,
I know this continues to be a challenging time for each of you and your students. I can appreciate the complex and unnerving emotions that surround the current COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak. I appreciate your support as the district maneuvers this ever changing predicament, continues to try to provide a quality education, and focuses on the health and safety of our students and employees.
I am thankful for our staff and families who have practiced patience and given us grace as we maneuver our way down this path; all while keeping the health and safety of our students at the forefront. We take our responsibility to your students and your family seriously, and have been resolutely committed to monitoring and adjusting daily to improve upon our methods of delivering education during this uncertain time.
Our role is to provide equitable access to education for all Avenue City Elementary Students. In the past week, I have marveled at the way our entire district community has come together to collaborate and make sure our students’ educational needs are met.
After spending the weekend reading CDC guidelines and the impact the COVID-19 has had on other nations (particularly Italy.) One of the take-always I have had from my reading is the following: Our children will likely do just fine if they contract this virus, but they can be asymptomatic carriers to their parents, grandparents, neighbors, and teachers. Parents, grandparents, neighbors, and our staff will be impacted greatly when hit with this virus.
As of right now (March 16, 2020 @ 9:30 AM) the school day at Avenue City School will proceed at normal with a few exceptions:
Exception #1: Based on the current CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention) recommendations and the impact of COVID-19 impact, it is our civic duty to make some cancellations. These cancellations are being made to help keep our students, staff, and community members safe. We are doing this to help do our part to “flatten the curve”:
- ALL field trips scheduled before April 6, 2020 - CANCELED
- Spring Musical Program (that was scheduled 4/2/2020) CANCELED
- PTO Spring Fling (scheduled for 3/28/2020) CANCELED

Exception #2: Visitors to our school will be limited. The only visitors allowed to school are parents/guardians. (Immediate family) Children who are not enrolled at ACES will not be allowed. Grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends of family who are not “parents/guardians” of student will be allowed in front office only to deliver / pick up students.
This list is ever changing – please check the district website often for updates. As always, we are trying to keep the health and safety of our students, staff, and community as a top priority.
