Welcome to the 2020-2021 Resource Room
Dear Parents,
I would like to welcome your family to Avenue City Elementary School for the 2020-2021 school year. I am thrilled to be teaching your child this year. With each new school year, we welcome new friends to our classroom as well as returning friends. We will start this year off with ten students ranging from Second Grade to Sixth Grade. Mrs. Grimes is our building principal. I am the resource teacher. Mrs. Williams is my paraprofessional and does a fabulous job co-teaching the children with me. Mrs. Spalding is the speech therapist. Ms. Milne is our school counselor. Various other service providers are contracted through the Area Cooperative of Educational Support out of Maryville, MO.
This year, Mrs. Williams and I plan to use Class Dojo as a means of communication. Class Dojo connects teachers, students, and families through communication features. Mrs. Williams and I are still in the learning stages of this program, so please be patient with us as we attempt to use this program to enhance our communication with both you and your child. In the meantime, you may email me at bbell@avenuecityschool.org. I will do my best to respond to any emails by the end of the day. If I am unable to respond by the end of the day, I will try to respond within 24 hours. Please remember that your child is one of ten children for whom we provide services. Our day focuses not only on your child’s educational needs, but also on social/emotional needs, and daily routines and responsibility in both our room and the regular classroom. We are unable to read emails or answer phone calls while we are working with children in our classroom.
Your child will begin and end the day in the regular classroom. He/She will come to the resource room for the number of minutes indicated on his/her IEP If, for some reason, the number of minutes we serve your child is significantly different from what is on the IEP, you will receive an addendum to sign reflecting this change. This year, each of you will be getting an addendum to your child’s current IEP within the first few weeks of school so that we can add Form G as a part of your child’s IEP. Form G is a Distance Learning Plan which will inform you of how your child will receive special education services if and when we should have a mandated shut down, such as we had this past spring for COVID-19. I will be contacting each of you to visit with you regarding these plans before Form G is completed and sent home to you.
Again, Mrs. Williams and I look forward to working with your child during the 20-21 school year.
Mrs. Bell
